Zen cart Tutorial: How to add a new category, subcategory and delete a category

Adding a new category:

Login to admin panel and then go to the catalog option -> then choose Categories/products.



Now click on the new category button and provide the following information to add a category.

• First add the name of the category.

• Then give a small description for the category. This description will tell you about the purpose of category.

• Then you can add an image for the category. This is optional and the image will display to the next of category.

• Select categories for the uploading directory.

• At the last there is an option “sort order”. This will help you in maintain the proper order of categories in the store. By default it is zero.

Click on the save button and your category will be successfully added to the store.

Adding a subcategory in zenCart:

Subcategory means adding a new category to the existing category. You need to follow the following steps to add a subcategory

• Login to the admin panel. Then go to the catalog -> Categories/products.

• It will display a list of existing categories. Now click on the folder icon next to the category name.

• It will ask to add a new category. This category will be added as subcategory.

• Click on new category option and provide the following information.

• First add the name of the subcategory.

• Then give a small description for the subcategory. This description will tell you about the purpose of subcategory.

• Then you can add an image for the subcategory. This is optional and the image will display to the next of subcategory.

• Select categories for the uploading directory.

• At the last there is an option “sort order”. This will help you in maintain the proper order of subcategories in the store. By default it is zero.

• Now click on save button to add the subcategory.

At the front end parent category and subcategory will look like this:




Here product is the parent category and shampoo is subcategory.

Delete a category in zenCart:

To delete a category, you need to follow the given steps:

• Login to the admin panel. Then go to the catalog -> Categories/products.

• It will display the list of categories. On the left click on the red cross to delete the directory.

• Your directory is successfully deleted.
