JoomlaRocket offers a great tutorial on how to install your myBB forum application within only few mouse clicks.
myBB requires a manual installation and here are the steps you need to follow in order to have a fully functional bulletin board within seconds.
1. First you will need to download the myBB files from the official myBB site in the Downloads section, or simply clicking here!
2. The latest stable version of myBB is 1.4.9 and the approximate size of the files is 1.7 MB and it should not take more than few seconds to download depending on your Internet connection.
3. After the files are downloaded to your personal computer, you will need to upload them to your hosting account. This can be done using 2 different ways.
- the first way will be to enter your cPanel and the click on the File Manager that is located under the Files category:

After you are in the cPanel, locate the folder in which you need you forum to be located and use the upload button that is situated on the top hand side of your cPanel:
![]()
After this simply upload your files and after they are uploaded use the Extract here option after selecting the archive of your myBB forum script(Please note that the default .zip file comes with Documentation Folder and Upload folder. For the purpose of the installation you will only need the content of the Upload folder and the actual change of the location of the files can take some time for you, that is why please consider the Second option as a faster one)
- the second way will be much faster as most of the actions can be made on your personal computer.
You simply need to upload the files in a directory on your computer and use an FTP Client to transfer them from your computer to the hosting account you already have. (Please note that the default .zip file comes with Documentation Folder and Upload folder. For the purpose of the installation you will only need the content of the Upload folder)
Alternatively you can transfer the archive file to the desired forum directory in your hosting account and then use the inbuilt extract here option of your FTP Client. The FTP Clients use file by file transfer and if you transfer 700 files it will take much more time than if you transfer an archive of 700 files and then Extract them in seconds.
After your files are uploaded please use the following steps.
The directory in which you have uploaded the files from the Upload folder of myBB will become the default installation directory for you forum. If this is your first myBB installation, it is best to have it installed in your root folder or the so called public_html folder (if you include a directory you will have your forum in a folder and your forum will NOT load on your main page. example: www.domain.com/mybb will contain your newly installed mybb instead of www.domain.com)
Please proceed to the final steps of myBB installation from here!
