Once you have determined and set up some categories it is time to start adding products to your Magento online store. In order to do this you will need to navigate to the Catalog > Manage Products link from your top navigation.
- Upon landing on the “Manage Products” page you may see a listing of demo products, or after you have added your first product you will see it listed here.
- In order to add a new product, the first thing you will need to do is click on the button that says “Add Product”.
- The first step will be to select an attribute set. We will cover attributes in a later tutorial but for now let’s just use Default, and select your product type. Once you have done this then click continue.
- Now (depending on the type of product you selected) you will be given to enter a range of details for your product including the product name, SKU number, weight, status, etc.
Once you are satisfied with your product details you can click either “Save” or “Save and Continue” to keep editing other features of your product. On the left of your screen you will see various sections that can be completed throughout the process of adding a new product to your online Magento Catalog.
It would be worthwhile to spend some time investigating each of the tabs before hand and making note what is available so that you can create more complete product listings.
